After months of a long off season that seemed to drag on forever, college football is finally here! There is nothing else like it. For me and millions of others – it’s the most wonderful time of the year.

In fact, if it was up to me, the first day of college football would be a National Holiday. In the South, it practically already is one.

Nothing else dominates the discussion like talking about our favorite teams. From the playground to the church house, to the workplace  … college football is the main topic of conversation. And the one that holds first place in my heart is the Auburn Tigers.

I can’t wait. I’m ready for the smell of smoke from the grill, ready to renew old acquaintances at our tailgate spot, ready to see Tiger Walk, to see the eagle fly, and watch the band take the field.

I’m ready to watch the pre game video, ready to hear the radio voices of Rod and Stan, and ready to hear Rod yell Touchdown n n n n  Au burn n n  n !

Since Auburn will be opening Saturday in the Georgia Dome, tailgating will have to wait till the first home game when the Tigers play ULM, September, 15 at Jordan-Hare. But hey that’s okay, football season is here.

I don’t know about you but by this time of year (with the exception of Acid Reign’s game preview) I have read all I want to about who will be the starting quarterback and what type of offensive and defensive looks the Tigers will present. I’m ready for some football, some Tiger football.

All the hype, the prognosticating, and the debate are all about to be settled, and where it should be settled – on the field.

The long dark off season is almost over and it’s time for what should be a National Holiday … it’s time for the start of college football.

Amen! I can’t wait for Thursday night!

  2. Kool Bell says:

Looking forward to seeing some college football myself. I just don’t get the same feeling watching the NFL, even my Redskins don’t give me anywhere near the excitement as my Tigers.
    Enjoyed the read,

I can’t wait till Sat night. The AU flag is already up, toilet paper ready for my Toomers Corner tree, and a good supply of refreshments already in the fridge. I wouldn’t really want to be in Atlanta this weekend. Game Fri. night, game Sat night, normal Atlanta traffic….hmmm my couch looks really great.

  4. War Eagle Atlanta says:

The only bad thing about the Georgia Dome is that tailgating is pretty hard to do within the confines of the CNN Center food court. You could be tailgating in a parking lot somewhere surrounding the Dome, but it’s just not the same as the wide expanse of the Auburn campus.

  5. Robert Beck says:

Been waiting for this since the Virginia game. Nervous but looking foward to seeing if they can grow into their potential or not.

  6. Bill Sewell says:

I feel strangely confident about this one.

Bill I feel the same way…..War Eagle!

It dawned on me yesterday that I would finally get to enjoy Auburn football..I know a little slow on the pick-up. It’s almost like I’m breaking in a new center or something….nope, nope, just reveling in the moments when I get 3 hours of consecutive sleep at night. There’s a reason why newborns are so darn cute :)
