Tigers tangle in the Georgia Dome tonight!
Auburn vs. Clemson, Open Thread
War Eagle, everybody! Can you believe it? The Auburn Tiger season starts tonight, at 7:00 PM Eastern Time. It’s time now to find out what the Auburn team will look like, this year! We’re all hoping for a smashing year, and a crushing of our cousins from South Carolina in the Dome tonight!
We’ll be here off and on all day, offering commentary on various games. At kickoff time, we’re going to have our usual play-by-play. It should be interesting, on this new platform. As always, feel free to comment at any time, and above all else, enjoy! Oh, and War Eagle! Beat Clemson!

…..First score update of the day, in the 3rd quarter, Notre Dame is having little trouble with Navy, leading 27-10 early in the 3rd quarter. The game’s being played where it’s late afternoon, in Dublin, Ireland!
…..And now with 8:45 left in the third, the Irish are first and goal at the three, with a timeout. Looks like coach Kelly has his high-powered passing attack working pretty well, early in the season.
Since Wednesday, the comments have totally disappeared on Internet Explorer and I’ve had to browse through Mozilla to see any. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
…..Have not noticed, but what I did just notice is that your comment did not appear on my screen till I just refreshed.
Having the same trouble with IE, Firefox works fine. Hope the page refreshes during the play by play, going to be a pain to hit refresh all evening. I am soooo ready for tonight, I have a good feeling about it.
Real Tigers-31
Other tigers-17
…..Listening to Verne and Gary do a Notre Dame game is very strange. The Irish are pounding Navy, 40-10 late in the third, and looking to score again.
…..It’s over in Dublin. Notre Dame smacks Navy, 50-10. UGA and Buffalo are just getting underway in Sanford Stadium.
Happy Game Day!
All my boys are in their Auburn gear. Their Noni braved airplanes with those headed to JerryWorld to restock us. I was trying to take a nap, but the weeest ToTM has different ideas (like he did ALL night long. AGAIN.)….guess I’ll have to go back to watching the Buffalo/UGA game. When I left, there were 5 minutes left in the 1st and Buffalo just scored a TD.
WVU is having zero problems dismantling the Thundering Herd. Looks like OSU is working out the kinks against Miami (OH). PSU is starting slowly against Ohio…..that’s all I got. If this blog will let me log back in as ToTM from my iPad, I’ll be back, if not, then I will likely be lurking….
This morning on Game Day, Jerry Jones and Herbie picked Clemson; Lee Corso picked Auburn. Tahj Boyd was cited as the reason, the ‘experts’ were giving Clemson the edge…again, I think that the new BVG defense will have a thing or two to say about that.
War Eagle, party people!!!
…..War Eagle! Experts… wasn’t slobberin’ Lou picking Navy over Notre Dame last night?
Sounds like something Lou would do. I consider his appearance on shows, ESPN’s version of ‘assisted living’…..
…..In the only SEC action at the lunch hour, Georgia has been toying with Buffalo, but now pulls out to a 24-6 second quarter lead.
I knew the Buffalo offense and defense wouldn’t last….
…..Checking the Community Coffee scoreboard: Buffalo has run over Georgia reserve defenders, and has trimmed the Georgia Bulldog lead to 24-13, near halftime.
…..In the battle of West Virginia, the Mountaineers lead 34-10 with just a few seconds left in the half, over Marshall, and they are trying to add more.
…..The boo-birds are out in Sanford Stadium already, on the first day of September. Buffalo has knifed through the Bulldog defense in the waning seconds of the half, and they are at the Georgia one yard line with 10 seconds left.
…..3rd and goal, The gun. And Mark Richt sees the the smash being called, calls a timeout.
…..Buffalo with two tight ends, dart into the endzone, and incomplete. Clock did not run?
…..6 seconds, and the field goal unit is in.
…..Field goal attempt… Patrick Clark is good, with two seconds left in the half. It’s Georgia 24, Buffalo 16.
…..At the half, Georgia leads Buffalo 24-16. Boo birds heard again.
Which Buffalo is Georgia playing? The Bills?
…..We’re into the 4th quarter of the early games. Georgia leads Buffalo (the Bulls, not the Bills!) 31-16. Still a little too close for the Bulldog fans, I’m sure. Bulldog D has been tackling better.
…..West Virginia massacring Marshall, 69-20 in the 4th. Ohio State is out to a big 42-10 over Miami of Ohio in Urban Meyer’s debut.
…..And now Murray hits Bennett to put UGA out to a 38-16 lead.
…..Checking the Chex Mix scoreboard: Penn State’s penalties kick in, as they are losing to the Ohio Bobcats, 24-14 late in the game. The Bobcats are trying to run the clock out.
…..Syracuse and Northwestern are in a wild one. Northwestern has blown a 35-13 third quarter lead, and is clinging to a 35-33 lead with 5 minutes left.
…..With 2:40 left, Syracuse hits another deep ball, and takes the lead!
…..After a pass interference call on the 2-pointer, The Orangemen run it it, and lead 41-35. The Wildcats have 2:40 left to win it. Are those some wacky jerseys, or what? Northwestern looks like they are wearing hockey sweaters, with that big horizontal stripe!
…..Northwestern drives to tie it, aided by a really stupid hit out of bounds by Syracuse. Review, then the extra point for the lead will come. Only 44 seconds remain, Syracuse has two timeouts left.
…..Touchdown upheld, PAT is good. Northwestern leads, 42-41.
…..Northwestern holds, and wins 42-41 at Syracuse.
…..Georgia has finished the early game, taking care of Buffalo by the score of 45-23.
Not very impressive against Buffalo unless they are stronger than anyone thinks.
Switching sports for a minute. Auburns own Jason Dufner shot a bogey free 66 to climb within 3 shots of the lead in the Deutsche Bank Championship. No one is playing better as consistently as Jason. He is on the Ryder Cup team, has a better than average shot at winning The Fedex Cup, and in the running for the Player of The Year award.
War Eagle Jason
…..War Eagle to Jason!
…..Halftime on the afternoon games, and Florida leads Bowling Green 14-7. Neither quarterback has done much, and Florida’s vaunted defense has allowed a Dave Clawson offense to generate a few drives.
…..Southern Miss was putting a scare into Nebraska in Lincoln, but they are not playing defense like the Bower days. Nebraska leads at the half, 28-17.
50 min to kick off! Vital signs starting to race.
Lets get it on!
…..Very little news out of Atlanta right now. It’s making me nervous!
…..Checking the orange juice scoreboard (hydrating before the game!) Florida is clinging to a 17-14 lead over Bowling Green, at the end of the 3rd quarter.
…..Nebraska is pulling away from Southern Miss, leading 42-17 in the 4th.
….Update, USM kicks a field goal, and trails Nebraska 42-20, with about 13 minutes remaining.
…..Upset Alert: Nevada has scored to take a 31-24 lead over Cal, with only 36 seconds remaining.
…..Florida gets some breathing room, with a 50 yard Driskell To Hammonds, and the Gators take a 24-14 lead in the 4th.
Cory Grant and Erique Florence are in uniform. Wonder if they are ok to play?
…..According to Chizik, Grant’s ready. He may return kicks.
…..Florida with the field goal, now leading Bowling Green 27-14.
…..Cal falls to Nevada, 31-24. First major upset of the day. I think a lot of folks thought Penn State would have trouble with Ohio, with nine guys leaving in the last month. The Bobcats are a veteran Frank-Solich-led team, that won a lot of games last year.
…..And… ESPN’s fading in and out. Not an auspicious start!
Start the 10 min. countdown.
…..Erique Florence will probably play, but he’s 3rd team free safety, due to missing so much camp. Ryan Smith will start, backed up by Trent Fisher, according to this week’s depth chart.
…..I’ve already noticed one thing. The "post comment" and the "logout" button are right next to each other, and look pretty similar! Hope I don’t miss during the game!
…..Five minutes to kickoff! Can you stand it? WAR EAGLE!
…..I’m hearing that there’s significantly more blue in the dome, than orange.
…..Clemson has won the toss, and will take the ball.
…..Here goes Parkey, booting it high in the air, and down to the endzone, and a touchback
…..Power set. Ellington, snuvved by Lemonier, 2 yard game.
…..Pistol, Ellington… for 6,
…..3rd and 1. Confusion… Ellington, has the first down.
…..Lining up quickly. Under center, flushed, and Dee Ford has him, only a yard gain.
2nd and 8. Fumble!
…..3rd and long. 4 wide, rolling, SACKED! FORD!@
…..Punting time for Clemson!
….Spencer Benton to punt. Short. Bray, fair catch. At the Auburn 41.
….McCalebb off left tackle, 4 yards.
…..I set. Now gun, and the draw goes nowhere. Frazier down.
…..3rd and 8. Frazier in the gun. 3 wide. Missed Mason, lotta traffic.
…..In comes Steven Clark. He’ll take, and boot this to the sky! Fair catch by Hopkins, at the 12.
…..Boyd from the 11. Bell into the game for Auburn. Screen, and Hopkins is near the stake.
…..Auburn slow to line up. Ellington, and he’s got 5.
…..New set of downs. Flag… And Boyd hit Bryant into Auburn territory.
….Illegal motion! Wipe out that catch.
…..First and 15. Boyd from the 19. Three wide. Ellington, and he is buried! Lemonier!
2nd and 16. Pistol, fires, and dropped ball! Wheeeew.
…..Possession play. And Auburn jumps offsides.
…..3rd and 10. Boyd will take, and he’s firing to Hopkins, first down at the 48.
…..New set of downs, Howard up the gut, and 4 yards.
…..Boyd, to the Auburn 40 to Hopkins. Another first down.
…..Howard will just run over Darren Bates, 11 yards.
….New set of downs. Hopkins, beat Ryan Smith down to the nine. Poor tackling.
…..Ellington, and he’s inside the 4.
…..2nd and goal. 3 wide. Ellington, stopped by K. Carter.
…..3rd and goal. Running in a tight end. Pistol, to throw, runs, and he is stopped short, Davis!
…..4th and goal, and Clemson is going. Heavy set.
…..Auburn will sub, and Jumped! False start!
…..Now Clemson sends in thefield goal unit.
…..Catanzaro is up, and this one is good.
…..With 5:22 left in the 1st, Clemson leads 3-0.
…..Clemson is firing pretty quickly on those passes, and Auburn’s covering too loosely. Deandre Hopkins is getting way too much separation.
BVG’s got to tighten it up.
…..Here’s the kick, down to Bray, touchback. Benton popped it 5 yards deep.
…..Tigers will have it 1st and 10 at the 20.
…..Correction, the 25. New rule, this year.
…..Under center, Mason in. Play action, to LUtz, juggled, and he’s got a first down!
…..New set of downs, the gun, screen to O-mac, big gain.`
….To the 45. Frazier under center. Mason will take, break a tackle, and gets about 2.
…..2nd and about 8. I set, fake, and and Blake has it, TOUCHDOWN~
…..Just BEAT the free safety on the post, and gone!
Touch Down Auburn!!!!!
What a play. Wow! WDE Kiehl Frazier!
….TOUCHDOOOOON, AUBURN>
….Parkey, is up and good! With 3:38 left in the first, Auburn leads 7-3!
…..Honestly, I don’t think Clemson thought Frazier could throw that far. It was 50 yards in the air, maybe 55.
…..Here’s Parkey with the boot, and it’s deep, and another touchback.
…..Here comes Clemson. Pistol. rollout, and the tight end is wide open, to the 35.
…..Screedn, and Mincy has it down for about 3.
…..2nd and 8, Ellington takes the snap, to the 44.
…..3rd and short. Boyd keeps, and he fights up to the 47, first down.
…..Pistol set. Motion. Gonna be chase, and he falls forward to the line, and the helmet is off.
…..And the spot is back where the helmet came off.
….Ellington, hit, hit again, and he’s getting loose up the gut for the first down.
…..Horrible tackling. Boyd to throw, and misses Brown, Ryan smith was there.
…..2nd and 10. Pistol. To throw, chased, he runs, inside the 30, lost the ball!
Thank God for the turn over
The D-Line has got to play better.
…..Auburn has it, Gabe Wright, at the 34!
…..Now, we have a review. Think the ball was clearly being juggled.
The call: CLemson keeps the ball, at the Auburn 28.
…..It was close. Can’t blame ‘em on that one.
I can’t believe it. It was afumble!
Lets hold ‘em defense!
…..Boyd out, lost his helmet on the last play. Pistol… and you have to know Ellington gets it.
…..Officials are now confused about the down. 1st down at the 28.
…..Pistol set. Stout hands to Ellington, only two.
…..Boyd back, and and flags. Illegal substitution!
…..2nd and 13. Boyd with two backs. Takes, flushed, and tipped up by Holland, and couldn’t get it.
…..3rd and long. Blitz, SACKED!
….Dee Ford was LOOSE!
Sacked!
Got to have more pressure like that.
…..That’s the end of the first quarter, and Auburn leads 7-3.
…..We don’t seem to be handling tons of comments too well, so I’m starting a second quarter thread.
Your doing a good job Acid.
Sack!!!
Tre Mason almost broke it!
Now he goes 30 yards
Well, it appears Jake Holland has not improved any, his awareness is terrible
