Labor Day Thoughts on Auburn Football

Today is the first Monday in September, a day we Americans celebrate as Labor Day. Its a day set aside to honor the American worker which means most of us get the day off – Hallelujah!

Over the years though, it has taken on some additional meanings. For many school children across the country, it marks the beginning of their school year. Most Americans regard it as the traditional end to summer. And more importantly, the weekend marks the beginning of college football.

Saturday was just like so many other opening weekend. There were the blowouts, the upsets, and the near misses. For me it was a mixed bag as I was excited to see the Auburn Tigers take the field once again; yet disappointed in the outcome.

Auburn started the youngest team for a season opener in recent memory. And it was that lack of game experience that had an impact on mistakes leading to the loss.

Even so, the Tigers kept it close and had a chance to pull it out with a minute and 24 seconds at the end.

To get the best game review any where, see the recap posted here at Track ‘Em Tigers on Sunday by Acid Reign. For my money no one does it better.

The short of it is that on offense, Auburn has to find some playmakers besides Emory Blake and Phillip Lutzenkirchen. On defense, the line has to give a much better performance and the entire unit has some tackling issues to solve.

While you have to be proud of the effort, the Tigers have to improve and improve quickly with a road trip to Starkville this Saturday and LSU and Arkansas coming to Jordan-Hare – after returning back to the Plains. Like most of this team though, the season is young, the Tigers will bounce back.

On this Labor Day  the Tigers won’t be taking a day of rest. They will be practicing and watching film in preparation for Saturday’s date with Mississippi State.

However, for the rest of us, its picnics, barbecues, and  family time …

Happy Labor Day from Track ‘Em Tigers!  We hope that you have a safe and relaxing day.

I have confidence in this coaching staff to fix the problems from the first game. Auburn will be alright.

Happy Labor Day to the TET staff. Thanks for all you do for us.
