Go to www.cnn.com for a series of pics and article about the cutting of the Toomers Oaks.
I will admit it is hard to read and look at the pics without a tear.
…..Confession… I didn’t attend the final rolling. I went and paid my respects around 9:00 AM, and I did take a few pictures. And I think that’s kind of tacky at a visitation or funeral! Still, I have a series of shots I did myself, that chronicle the trees since Updyke did his work.
…..Still, by the end of the A-Day game, I COULD NOT WAIT to get home and start running it all down, and watch the replay. And I’d forgotten to sunblock my arms, and they were cooked, too.
…..Kudos to the Auburn family. After last year’s abysmal season, no one would have blamed us if there were only 5000 folks at A-Day. Instead, folks packed the stadium, and Toomer’s Corner! I’m honored to be included in a fanbase as great as this one!
Contrary to popular belief and/or expectations, the Auburn Family did not split up just because of a horrid football season and a heated coaching replacement search. That is what makes Auburn what it is–this IS a family, and no one better get in its way!
(who also didn’t go to the last roll, but was at A-Day and went back to the corner on Sunday)
