For the second time in four seasons an Auburn doubles tennis team has earned the No.1 ranking in the nation. The Tigers duo of senior Andreas Mies and junior Daniel Cochrane are the top-ranked men’s doubles team in all of college tennis.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings were released today with the Auburn team at the top of the list. The two ascended to the No. 1 ranking after posting an unbeaten stretch through the first eight matches of the dual schedule.
So far this season Mies and Cochran have a 15-1 overall record. They began the season ranked No. 2 after winning the ITA All-American Championship and advancing to the semifinals at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships last year.
Mies also joined sophomore Lukas Ollert in the singles rankings. Mies has a 10-3 overall record for the season, including a 5-1 mark in dual match play, while Ollert is 6-0 in the spring and 13-2 overall.
The 22nd-ranked Tigers return to action next weekend with a pair of home matches against ACC opponents. Auburn hosts No. 57 Clemson at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22. Mies and Cochran will also have to face Georgia Tech’s No. 3 ranked tandem of Vikram Hundal and Juan Spir this Sunday, Feb.24.
Congratulations Tigers and keep it going!
