Have you heard the news? LSU’s Les Miles has hired former Baltimore Raven OC Cam Cameron. And the tiger faithful aren’t to happy about it.
Looking back in December after Baltimore Ravens lost to the Washington Redskins Coach John Harbaugh fired Cameron citing that the offense wasn’t getting it done. After allowing some time to pass (and right after the Super Bowl) Cameron was quoted as saying that his firing was a “brilliant move”. That it caused everyone on that team to “look in the mirror”. Obviously a well seasoned professional when it comes to presenting bad news like getting fired.
Cameron is known as a disciple of the “Air Coryell” offense popularized by Don Coryell’s late-70s San Diego Chargers teams. And he has some history with successful quarterbacks. At Michigan, he tutored future NFL quarterbacks Elvis Grbac and Todd Collins as QB coach from 1990-93, working alongside Michigan assistant and future boss coach Les Miles. With the Washington Redskins, he coached Gus Frerotte to his only Pro Bowl.
The faithful seem to have wanted an up and coming shooting star… while AU can’t say much… it’s amazing that LSU has been a part of the conversation at all when it comes to “big games”.
Only time will tell if this was a wise move… or the move that puts Miles out of his misery at LSU.
