AU Soccer Headed to NCAA Tournament
“It’s really exciting for these girls. We were on the outside looking in before the SEC Tournament. We had a great run … and we played our way into the NCAA Tournament.”
Words spoken by Auburn Head Soccer Coach, Karen Hoppa after hearing the news Monday that her Tigers had received their seventh consecutive berth in the NCAA Tournament. “It never gets old seeing your name go up on that board,” Hoppa said.
The announcement came Monday afternoon, after the Tigers finished second in the SEC Tournament Sunday in Orange Beach. Auburn(12-10-1) received an at-large bid out of the Pac-12; and will travel to play Washington (10-7-3).
“Washington is a quality soccer program year-in-and-year-out,” Hoppa said. “The last time we played them in the NCAAs they beat us and went to the Elite 8. This is going to be a great matchup for us.”
The winner of the Auburn-Washington match will face the winner of the BYU (18-1-1)-Utah State (13-2-6) match. BYU is the top seed in Auburn’s first round bracket.
This is another big achievement for the Soccer team under Coach Hoppa, who will be taking her 11th team to the NCAA Tournament.
Congratulations Tigers and Beat the Huskies!
